Our Premium Thread process uses immersion plating to impart corrosion resistance and increase the lifespan of drill pipe, crossovers, couplings, float equipment, and other premium and semi-premium threaded parts.

Working Under Extreme Pressure
S+S helps premium connections stand up to the extreme-pressure drilling operations these specially threaded components are designed to facilitate, such as those in offshore or deep-water locations, horizontal and directional wells, and unconventional plays.
Unlike other finishers, we use immersion electroplating–not brushing–after removing impurities with a strong chemical wash. This allows us to more carefully control the thickness of the plated layer.
Before signing off on finished parts, our quality control protocols include ISO-certified non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques of Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Examination.
Plating with Copper or Clear Run®
In addition to being corrosion resistant, copper is well-known for its ability to prevent galling in OCTG equipment, the #1 cause of failure in threaded equipment and a major source of excessive operational costs for producers. It’s also highly conductive and has been used effectively inside wireline and MWD assemblies.
And thanks to its softness, copper affords some flexibility that meshes well with premium threads’ enhanced tensile strength.
We’re also proud to plate premium threaded equipment with JFE Clear Run®, a dope-free solution that also lends friction protection and time and cost savings during connection make-up and storage.
