FracTuff: The Answer to Hydraulic Fracturing’s Toughest Challenge
As unconventional resource plays have become more common, the increased demands of pressure, temperature, and runtime on downhole equipment have overwhelmed yesterday’s defensive measures like cladding.
Only one patented, military-grade, NASA-developed coating has been proven to win the fight against costly part fatigue and extend equipment lifetimes many times beyond steel.
That coating is known as FracTuff.

Our Coating Methods
We coat metal and other materials with the following techniques:
Spray Coating
As a PPG Whitford Recommended Coater for Whitford Xylan®, Everslik®, Lubelok, DuPont, and Tech Lube coating products, we provide comprehensive spray-coating solutions for a wide range of component weights, sizes, and quantities.
Spray coating begins with cleaning/degassing, followed by masking, abrasive blasting, and pretreatment. It concludes with curing and final inspection to ensure a smooth, strong layer.
Xylan
This brand-name fluoropolymer coating is widely praised for its versatility, able to be applied across many different types of substrates. It comes in eight different types that feature different capabilities, such as:
Xylan 1424 for resistance to corrosion in tough environments and low-VOCs for sensitive applications
Xylan 1052 for lubrication in extreme temperature and high-pressure settings
Xylan 1014 for anti-galling and corrosion resistance.
Molybdenum-Disulfide
With one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid, MoS2 is ideal for moving parts and components that require assembly/disassembly and permanent lubrication. It is a dry film lubricant perfect for threaded parts, bearings and bushings, chains, gears, cams, and more.
Epoxy
Renowned for their excellent hardness, durability, and abrasion, chemical, and corrosion resistance, our multi-coat epoxy systems can protect parts in the most extreme environments. The mixing of epoxy resin with a catalyst causes a chemical reaction that leaves a durable, rigid plastic coating on your component, whether it’s a subsea steel pipe or a truck shock absorber.
Thermal Spray Aluminum/Zinc (TSA/TSZ)
For a coating solution that’s thicker than plating and applied faster than epoxy, turn to thermal spray, or metallizing. We are NORSOK M501-qualified and use the arc spray coating method, which allows us to perform high-volume deposition while achieving a consistent coating with high bond strength. At your site or ours, we can spray your tanks, process vessels, beams, bridge components, and more with material that can hold up for two decades of punishing use.
Phosphate (available in zinc or nickel manganese phosphate)
Thin, crystalline, phosphate-compound layers increase the surface area on metal substrates, enhance lubricity, reduce oxidation, and deliver a superior base for subsequent treatments. Our immersion process accommodates extremely large components—up to 50,000 pounds—and enables customizable phosphate crystal sizes and coating thicknesses. Applied to carbon steel, low-alloy steel, and cast iron, our services protect pipe threadings, couplings, pistons, machined parts, and more.
Blasting/Shot Peening
Whether your components need cleaning, etching, polishing, or hardening, we can get it done with our shot blasting and shot peening services. Our blasting facilities include controlled blast rooms that accommodate all atmospheric conditions. From glass beads for a smooth, bright finish to steel grit for fast stripping action and steel shot for improved compressive strength, we have the right media for the job.
