Copper and aluminum are the primary options for bus bar metals, but each has its drawbacks: copper has lower electrical resistance and power loss, with better heat tolerance, but it will oxidize and begin to fail over time.
Plating with silver or tin not only allows the electricity to travel faster, reducing the transmission of heat, it protects the bus bar from corrosion. Silver is highly conductive even when tarnished, while tin is a cost-effective choice for non-sliding applications.
